Richard Peterson, born in San Pedro, California in 1947, grew up in the sand, sun and surf culture of Southern California during the heady years of the 1960s. While he came of age riding the waves of famed surfing spots like Huntington Beach, Malibu and Rincon, he grew into a Renaissance man – a painter, pianist and collector of antiques with a scholar’s knowledge and an artist’s eye. Peterson’s love of the outdoors manifested itself early, and he became an excellent surfer who loved the routine of surfing in the quiet early morning hours. His love of surf knew no bounds – he once flew all the way to Australia to catch a weekend of good waves. The golden tan he bore from the endless summer stood in contrast to the velvet smoking jackets and cravats he affected.

This subject of this painting, a "winter scene", is so a-typical of Richard Peterson. In fact it is the only one I have come across. As your research will show Peterson paints mostly (magnificent) still lifes or landscapes with a combination of perhaps shepherd, or sheep, waterfall, distant mountains and wooded landscape.

So this dutch winter scene presents an unusual find.

The art measures 9" x 12" , and 19" x 22" framed
